An abandoned well was discovered and safely decommissioned while crews were working on upgrades to a section of downtown Parksville.
The installation will affect traffic in both directions on Memorial Avenue, close to the Town of Qualicum Beach. The work will be done between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Feb. 9–11.
The road closure will be in effect indefinitely, as the project team prepares to install the new Memorial Plaza in this location.
Work on the project could begin as soon as this month and is expected to be completed in May 2022.
“This is an opportunity for all of us in Canada, in society, to acknowledge there is pain and to acknowledge the harm that has been done,” said Edna Howard, who organized the event with the city.
