Emmerson Pollard, a fourth-year VIU psychology honours student, is researching resilience in the romantic relationships of firefighters.
There will be no door-to-door collection due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some fire departments will accept donations at their halls on Nov. 20 and 21.
Cooler seasonal weather and precipitation, combined with the hard work of firefighters from B.C., Canada and abroad to contain and extinguish fires, means the province can return to a standard emergency response.
The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) has been approved for six grants totalling $45,425 for firefighting and personal protective equipment (PPE) for local volunteer fire departments (VFD).
“Chemical flame retardants designed to keep us safe can actually contribute negatively once the product combusts,” said Gord Ditchburn, president of the British Columbia Professional Fire Fighters’ Association.
