Province issuing fines for not wearing masks — extends state of emergency

The provincial government extended its state of emergency to Dec. 8 and provided more details on the mask mandate. Anyone without a mask in an indoor public place or who refuses to comply with the direction of an enforcement officer may receive a $230 fine, according to the province.

There are 152 active cases of COVID-19 on Vancouver Island, including 11 cases reported in the last 24 hours. That number includes 95 in the central region, down five since yesterday, along with 44 in the south and 13 in the north.

Masks mandatory in public places across B.C.

Face masks are now mandatory in all indoor public and retail spaces in B.C., according to Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer. The order applies to both employees and customers and the only exception will be when people are eating or drinking in places such as restaurants.
