Oceanside RCMP received 288 complaints between Oct. 25 and Oct. 31. Police ask anyone who has info on these incidents to phone the Oceanside RCMP non-emergency number at 250-248-6111.

RDN recycling used collection containers

Residents of the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) can recycle their used collection containers by drop off or pickup until Nov. 30. Clean collection bins can be put out for curbside pickup between Nov. 17 and 28, the day after their regularly scheduled collection day.

City of Parksville dealing with large number of dead Western red cedar trees

Western red cedar trees have been dying off for years and the Parksville parks department wants to allocate more funds to removing the dead ones. The trees are declining across the Pacific Northwest region due to long, hot summers brought on by climate change, according to Guy Martin, manager of parks and facilities for the city.

Parksville will receive large COVID-19 recovery grant

The City of Parksville will soon receive a $2.86 million COVID-19 recovery grant from the provincial government. The province will provide the COVID-19 Safe Restart Grant for Local Governments to each municipality, based on population. The money came as a surprise to city staff and council decided to delay the budget amendment process.
