Parksville’s 80 year-old and older men’s hockey team recently skated to success in the annual Playmakers Hockey Tournament held at the Pearkes Arenas in Victoria’s Tillicum Mall, March 22 – 26th.
There were four teams competing in the division. The local boys, known as the “Parksville Panters” iced a team of 9 skaters and a goalie in the tournament.
In the first game they held the Lower Mainlanders to a 2-2 draw. Two nights later they edged out the Alberta Oil Sharks 2-1. In their final game on the Friday, the Panters held their Victoria Traditionals rivals scoreless, winning 3-0.
“Everyone played well despite being so shorthanded, and goalie Dave Ronalds was stellar in the nets allowing only 3 goals against for the tournament!” remarked Ted Dash, who plays for the Panters.
Catch the octogenarians in action in the Fall. Plans are underway to host the 2022 Panter Classic tournament in Parksville from September 6th – 8th, 2022.
