Qualicum Beach residents can share their thoughts on a proposed bylaw that would permit a mixed-use development on a First Avenue West property.

If passed, Bylaw No.580.131, 2021 would change the zoning of 190 and 194 First Avenue West to Commercial 10 (C10) and allow a development with 16 residential units above three ground floor commercial units. The C10 is a new commercial zone that permits a higher residential density, according to the town.

The public hearing will be conducted on Zoom and is scheduled during council’s Feb. 23 regular meeting, before the proposed bylaw is given third reading.

The public may speak by joining the Zoom meeting via telephone or over the Internet using a smartphone, tablet or computer. Speakers are asked to pre-register. Public attendance at the meeting in the Council Chamber is permitted — those attending in person will be given an opportunity to speak via Zoom on a laptop.
