Oceanside RCMP seized a modified firearm and ammunition while executing a search warrant yesterday (Feb. 16).

Officers from the Oceanside RCMP General Investigation Section conducted the search of a Parksville residence as part of a firearms investigation, according to a media release by Oceanside RCMP.

The firearm was loaded, in addition to be being illegally modified and improperly stored, police said. A 49-year-old man, not licensed to possess firearms, was arrested and later released.

“Modifications to firearms are extremely dangerous,” said Sgt. Shane Worth. “The Oceanside RCMP are pleased this firearm has been seized and removed from the community.”

Police continue their investigation, which will include laboratory examinations, and expect to submit a report to the B.C. Prosecution Service recommending charges.
