Berwick Qualicum Beach has been recognized as one of the top 25 senior communities for active living in North America.
Berwick received the Best in Wellness award for fostering a wellness-centred environment, according to a media release from the senior living community.
The award was created as a joint effort between the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) and NuStep, LLC, a manufacturer of recumbent cross-trainers used in healthcare, senior living and fitness. The ICAA is responsible for leading, connecting and defining the active aging industry.
“Senior living communities have long been aware of how important wellness is for the health and well-being of their residents, but in recent years, wellness has evolved from being a programming option to becoming a way of life,” said Colin Milner, ICAA CEO and founder.
That change was also reflected in a survey recently conducted by the ICAA, according to Milner. The survey found that 59 per cent of senior living communities state their business model will be wellness-centred with care services by 2023.
“Our Active Living team feels proud to be acknowledged for helping to create the wonderful culture of wellness with residents and staff at Berwick Qualicum Beach. We exemplify active living in everything we do and base all of our programming on the specific needs, desires and requests of our residents to make the best choice for wellness-based living,” said Laurel Wright, Berwick Qualicum Beach’s active living manager.
According to the ICAA, wellness is made up of seven dimensions: emotional, physical, intellectual, social, spiritual, vocational and environmental. When these dimensions are nurtured and prioritized, it can enhance a sense of well-being among residents.
