The new Harbour Town play area in Parksville Community Park opened to visitors today (Jan. 31).

The new centrepiece of the Lions Ventureland Playground is about 60 feet x 60 feet and includes six slides, a pirate ship, spinner and climbing structures, according to a media release by the city.

The playground is based on ramps and hexagonal platforms, fostering inclusive, accessible and intergenerational play for users of all abilities. The design is based on a ship and dock design fitting with the marine-seashore overall theme in the playground.

The city received a $315,000 grant, through the  B.C. Tourism Dependent Communities Fund, for improvements to the playground.
