Students contemplating the next step in their post-secondary careers can drop in to Vancouver Island University’s (VIU) virtual Graduate Programs Expo on Jan. 19.
Expo attendees will be able to meet instructors and ask questions about the graduate programs they are interested in. They will also hear from and chat with VIU graduate programs alumni about what the experience is like. Students will learn about support services, such as scholarships, internships and research opportunities and get an overview of the graduate school application process.
The expo will include a keynote talk by Sandipan Debnath, a 2021 master of business administration graduate who is now working as a business development representative at Wrapbook, a US-based tech start-up that is digitizing the entertainment payroll industry.
Irlanda Gonzalez Price, VIU associate vice-president of student affairs, will also talk about her own experience and the value of graduate programs.
Graduate programs build on what students learned in undergraduate degrees and are more highly specialized in a particular area of study. VIU offers master’s degree, advanced diploma and certificate graduate programs.
The event will be hosted through an online event platform called PheedLoop, which allows participants to browse the different program booths in the Exhibit Hall, as well as scroll through the “Sessions” section to attend live Q&A sessions with faculty, much like walking into an in-person conference room.
Participants will also be able to network with other attendees, faculty members, domestic and international recruitment staff in the “Networking” section.
