All curb side garbage and recycling collection was cancelled today (Jan. 6) due to weather conditions, according to the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN).
The regional district said it will offer free drop off service at the Church Road Transfer Station in Parksville and the Regional Landfill because of the extended pickup delays. Residents will need to provide identification and address, including postal code. The RDN also asks people to be prepared with a mask.
Reasonable amounts of household waste will be accepted and should be separated according to waste streams on site (see table below). The free residential drop off services will be available until curb side service resumes regular scheduling.

Rescheduled collection days are subject to safe road conditions and may be further interrupted due to snow or icy roads, the RDN said. Once deemed safe, crews will resume in the order missed. The regional district said if carts are not collected by 5 p.m. on a rescheduled day, residents should continue to set them out at 8 a.m. the following days until they are collected.
Residents can download the free RDN Curbside app on their Apple and Android devices or sign up for email/phone call notifications by entering their address into the calendar search, selecting “Get a reminder!” and then choosing the type of notification they would like to receive.
