Parksville municipal employees will be required to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

Employees, contractors, volunteers and on-call firefighters will be required to provide proof they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to a media release from the city. Details of the policy and implementation plan will be finalized in the coming days.

“We continue to review best practices for the protection of our staff and the public to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and enable the city to provide uninterrupted essential and important municipal services,” reads the release.

Senior city staff have maintained regular communications with neighbouring governments and the Vancouver Island Medical Health Officer throughout the pandemic, the release said.

The city said its decision to implement mandatory vaccines is consistent with federal, provincial, and other local governments in B.C.
