RDN cancels extended New Year’s Eve transit service

The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) has cancelled its extended New Year’s Eve transit service.  

The decision was made in response to the latest provincial public health orders which resulted in New Year’s Eve events being cancelled because of COVID-19 concerns related to the Omicron variant.

Transit service on Dec. 31 will now end at 12:30 a.m. Free transit will continue to be provided from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. that evening, according to a media release from the RDN. 

Other holiday service hours are not impacted and remain as follows: 

December 20 – 24: Reduced weekday service (No ‘S’ Trips; same as summer schedule) 

December 25: Sunday level service 

December 26: Saturday level service 

December 31: Reduced weekday service (No ‘S’ Trips; same as summer schedule). Free evening service from 8 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. 

January 1 – 2: Sunday level service 

January 3: Return to regular service
