The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) has cancelled several upcoming events due to public health officer (PHO) orders and concerns over rising COVID-19 cases.

All youth and adult sports tournaments, the New Year’s Eve Celebration at Oceanside Place Arena and the annual Polar Bear Splash in Parksville are cancelled, according to an RDN media release.

The regional district said it will contact and work directly with tournament and event organizers as needed.

RDN facilities remain open and programs are running in accordance with current PHO orders, the release said.

Proof of vaccination will be required for events, now of any size, at both Oceanside Place Arena and Ravensong Aquatic Centre, according to the RDN.

The RDN will continue to ensure the webpage at rdn.bc.ca/recreation is up to date with any recreation, event or facility changes.

The new PHO orders are in effect until at least Jan. 31, 2022.
