A strong winter storm is forecast to affect many parts of B.C. this weekend, including east Vancouver Island.
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for east Vancouver Island warning of 60 km/h winds, gusting to 80 and 20–40 mm of rain. Areas inland could receive up to 60 mm of precipitation.
Southeast winds will strengthen along the Strait of Georgia this afternoon (Dec. 10) and remain strong tonight. The southeast winds will ease and switch to gusty southwest winds early Saturday morning, according to Environment Canada.
The weather statement is in effect for areas between Nanoose Bay and Fanny Bay, Duncan to Nanaimo and Courtenay to Campbell River. Inland Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast will likely also be hit by the storm.
