Two people were taken to hospital after a collision on the Nanaimo Parkway early this morning (Dec. 6).

Police believe the crash occurred when a woman lost control of her Honda Civic, crossed over the meridian and collided with a driver travelling the opposite direction, according to an RCMP media release.

The driver of the Honda sustained life-threatening injuries, while the other driver also suffered serious injuries, according to police. Both were taken by BC Ambulance to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

The two northbound lanes were closed for around 45 minutes while investigators examined the scene. The Honda Civic will undergo a mechanical inspection, police said. Investigators ask any motorists who were in the area to check if the collision was captured by their dash camera.

Anyone with information on this incident, can call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file #2021-45116.
