A COVID-19 outbreak at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital’s (NRGH) transitional care unit has been declared over.

Three patients died due to the outbreak, which saw 14 patients and three staff members test positive, according to a release from Island Health.

“Island Health extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends and care staff of those who passed away,” the release reads.

The outbreak was declared on Nov. 1 after evidence of virus transmission in the unit.

Extensive cleaning and standard end-of-outbreak procedures are underway and the unit will return to normal operations, Island Health said.
