Patios that appeared in Qualicum Beach’s downtown to facilitate social distancing may become a permanent addition.
Town council voted unanimously in favour of having staff prepare a report for council on making the use of public space for patios in the downtown area permanent.
“There’s not a lot of patios we’ve had in our downtown, but the ones that have been put together add a sense of vibrancy. I think they’re a good thing for our downtown,” said Coun. Scott Harrison, who brought the motion forward.
Coun. Teunis Westbroek said keeping the patios could be helpful to businesses who have had a tough few years because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
