One man was airlifted to a Victoria hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries after a helicopter crashed in a forested area of Nanoose Bay around 12:30 p.m. today (Nov. 4).

A mechanic who was on the site pulled the man from the wreckage, performed first aid and called 911. The injured man was the sole occupant of the helicopter, according to a Nanaimo RCMP release.

Two ambulances responded to the scene — about five–six km west of Highway 19A, near Northwest Bay Road. Paramedics transported the man to the intersection of Northwest Bay Road and Highway 19A, where he was transferred to a BC Ambulance helicopter and flown to Victoria.

Nanaimo RCMP continue to investigate the incident, according to Const. Gary O’Brien.

Anyone with information on the incident can call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345, and quote file #2021-41227.
