Parksville’s world-famous beach festival is set to return in summer 2022.

Parksville Beach Festival Society has started planning for the return of summer events such as its world-class sand sculpting competition and exhibition, artisan market, sculpture light-up show and concert series.

The festival will open in mid-July with 29 international master sculptors competing in solo and team sand sculpting categories, according to a release from the society.

“We need to ensure they have everything they need to be successful,” said Cheryl Dill, society president. “Sand, water, great food and plenty of fun! Volunteers are needed to support the set-up, take down, and plenty of details in between.”

In addition to event support volunteers, the society said it will recruit other non-profit organizations to manage the gate entrance to the exhibition. Over 150 volunteers will welcome visitors throughout the festival and these groups will receive a portion of the gate proceeds to support their community work, according to the release.

The festival typically draws around 125,000 people over a five week period, according to the society.

To date, Parksville Beach Festival has donated just over $900,000 to community groups and projects. Most recently, the society contributed funds towards improving accessibility and the construction of the Outdoor Performance Theatre.
