Two staff members and one resident have tested positive for COVID-19 at Chartwell Malaspina Care Residence in Nanaimo.

Island Health declared an outbreak, but said it is limited to the facility’s Hummingbird Unit, according to a release from the health authority.

Residents and staff are isolated in the affected unit and social visits, admissions and transfers have stopped, according to Island Health. Communication with residents, families and staff is ongoing.

Two deaths were linked to the previous COVID-19 outbreak at the care home that began in late December and lasted until February.
