Police have arrested a man and a woman after a shooting in Nanaimo.
The residence, located near the intersection of Nicol Street and Needham Street, is known by police to be used by persons involved in Nanaimo’s drug culture, according to a release from Nanaimo RCMP.
Officers responded after multiple calls to 911 around 1 p.m. on Oct. 10 and searched the home, but found no one.
Around 20 minutes later, police were informed a man showed up at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The two suspects, both known to police, were arrested after being pulled over on Nicol Street and were later released with charges pending. The vehicle was seized by police, according to the release.
Police believe the incident is a targeted, isolated event and the people involved appear to know each other, the release said.
“The use of firearms and the blatant disregard for the safety of individuals in our community is the direct result of the drug culture in Nanaimo and the violence associated with it,” said Const. Gary O’Brien.
Police continue to investigate and anyone with information about the incident can call the RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345, and quote file #2021-38031.
