Island Health said it has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 at Tofino General Hospital after evidence of transmission in the inpatient unit.
Four patients have tested positive so far — Island Health said the outbreak is limited to the inpatient unit and the hospital’s emergency department remains open.
The health authority has implemented precautions, including enhanced cleaning and contact tracing to prevent further spread of the virus. Communication with patients, families and staff is ongoing, according to Island Health.
