The city is asking residents for feedback as it works with a consultant to develop Parksville’s urban forest strategy.
The city said it will use the strategy to gather baseline information about the state of the urban canopy, develop a long-term vision and adopt goals to grow and manage the urban forest.
Public engagement on the strategy is underway and will continue until Oct. 22, according to a release from the city. There will also be a second round of community engagement in winter 2022 and the city said it hopes to complete the strategy in March of next year.
Residents can take a 15 minute survey to share what they value about the urban forest, as well as priorities for management to inform the strategy’s vision, principles, goals and targets. They can also use the map tool to share locations where they value the urban forest and places where they would like to see improvements.
“Let the project team know why it is an important urban forest location and the reasons why you visit the area. You can also upload a photo of the urban forest location to show us and other community members what you are describing,” the release reads.
Users can submit as many locations as they like and view spots submitted by other members of the community. Residents can also share their ideas for the Urban Forest Strategy, as well as read ideas sent in by other users.
