Qualicum Beach residents will have a chance to provide input on a temporary use permit application which, if approved, would allow three short-term rental units on the ground floor of 210 First Avenue West.

The permit would be for a maximum of three years if approved, according to a release from the town. The public hearing will take place at 10 a.m. on Oct. 6 before council’s regular meeting.

The town can then choose whether or not to permanently change the zoning to permit short-term rentals, renew the temporary use permit or discontinue the use. The property is currently zoned Commercial 4.

Anyone who considers their interests to be affected by the permit can provide input through written submissions, email or mail, according to the town.

The public may also speak by joining the Zoom meeting via telephone or online. The town asks those who wish to speak to pre-register. Public attendance at the meeting in the Council Chamber is permitted — those attending in person will be given an opportunity to speak via Zoom on a laptop, according to the town.
