BC Ferries cancels series of sailings due to mechanical problems and high winds

BC Ferries was forced to cancel eight sailings today due a mechanical problem with one of its vessels.

The sailings from Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen were cancelled because Spirit of Vancouver Island experienced a problem with its starboard gearbox and was taken out of service, according to BC Ferries. The following crossings were cancelled: 

7:00 a.m. departing Swartz Bay

9:00 a.m. departing Tsawwassen

11:00 a.m. departing Swartz Bay

1:00 p.m. departing Tsawwassen

3:00 p.m. departing Swartz Bay

5:00 p.m. departing Tsawwassen

7:00 p.m. departing Swartz Bay

9:00 p.m. departing Tsawwassen

The vessel Coastal Celebration will sail an additional round trip today (Sept. 29) to supplement service between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay, the company said.

BC Ferries also cancelled two sailings (9:15 p.m. departing Tsawwassen and 12:15 a.m. departing Duke Point) on the vessel Queen of New Westminster due to high winds.
