Suspects made off with around $15,000 worth of equipment belonging to the Vancouver Island Raiders football team after a locker room break-in last week.
One or more suspects stole six black, Threadscape brand duffle bags emblazoned with team’s logo. The bags contained 80 practice jerseys, numerous pads, footballs and 10 brand new black helmets with red face cages, according to RCMP.
Police say the gear was stolen from a locker room in Comox Gyro Park in Nanaimo sometime between 10 p.m. on Sept. 14 and 5:30 p.m on Sept. 15.
“This is a significant loss to a very important Nanaimo sporting institution that has brought a lot of joy to the community,” said Const. Simon Gallimore, media relations officer for the Nanaimo RCMP.
Anyone with information about the break-in, or whose home or business video cameras may have captured images of the suspect(s) can call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345, and quote file #2021-34968.
