Qualicum Beach Fire Rescue, along with the Parksville, Coombs/Hilliers and Dashwood departments, extinguished a roof fire before it spread to the rest of a home on Rowan Road today (Aug. 19).

There were no injuries and crews had the fire controlled within 15 minutes of the first truck arriving, according to Friso McKenzie, Qualicum Beach deputy fire chief.

“Complete extinguishment took just under one hour to access all of the areas within the attic space,” he said.

A total of 22 firefighters responded from the four departments around 10:30 in the morning. The fire originated on the roof and spread to the attic, McKenzie said. The Qualicum Beach ladder truck was used to reach the fire.

McKenzie said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
