An external public engagement team will gather public opinion on the Parksville Aquatic and Recreation Centre over the next few months. HDR Corporation will lead the process to help gauge community interest, identify potential programs and amenities and help determine a suitable site.
The proposed site, which attracted public dissent, on Despard Avenue is no longer an option, according to the city.
The city said consultation will prioritize determining which features the community wants at the centre and HDR has engagement opportunities planned this summer and fall.
This includes an informal engagement session on Aug. 18, where team members will hand out information and listen to comments from residents. They will be at the Thrifty’s Foods shopping centre from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and at the Parksville Community Park 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Other engagement opportunities will include a hybrid in-person and virtual public presentation and listening session in late August, youth engagement in early October, and in-person public workshops in late October, the city said
