Oceanside RCMP have arrested a suspect in connection to a rollover crash in March.
On March 14 RCMP responded to a stolen truck that had crashed on the Inland Island Highway, near Horne Lake Road.
The driver and passenger of the vehicle fled the scene on a dirt bike and were filmed by witnesses, RCMP said.
When officers reviewed the footage, they immediately recognized the prolific offender of no fixed address as 32-year-old Sheldon James Johanson, according to a news release from Cpl. Jesse Foreman, operations support NCO.
Police found Johanson at a residence in Parksville on May 18 and arrested him. He was held in custody and has been remanded until he makes his next appearance in court on May 25.
Proposed charges include possession of stolen property and firearms offences.
“It was very fortunate that witnesses recognized the seriousness of the event, took video and stuck around to share the information with the police. We have them to thank for bringing Johanson to justice,” said Sgt. Stephen Rose.
RCMP said they are still working on charges for the female passenger who was involved.
