Official Qualicum Beach byelection results confirm Anne Skipsey will join council

The final results are in for the Town of Qualicum Beach’s byelection and Anne Skipsey will be sworn in as councillor at the May 27 regular meeting. 

The final results show Skipsey with 1,539 votes, followed by Sarah Duncan with 1,017, Jean Young with 431, Peter Kent with 342 and Brian Denbigh with 36.  

A total of 3,365 ballots were cast in the byelection, including 1,489 votes at the two advance voting opportunities, 896 votes by mail ballot and 980 votes on general election day, according to the town.

Voter turnout was 40.7 per cent. Turnout in the 2018 municipal election was 57.46 per cent, according to the town.

The swearing in ceremony will be live streamed on the town’s website.

Skipsey was previously a councillor from 2014–2018. She did not respond to Oceanside News’ request for comment following the preliminary results.
