Parksville reminds residents of burning restrictions

Parksville Fire Rescue is reminding residents that all open burning and outdoor fires are prohibited at this time, excluding cooking fires. Campfires are allowed.

The department said it also wants to remind residents beach fires are always prohibited in the Parksville Qualicum Wildlife Management area by provincial legislation.

Sale and use of fireworks in the City of Parksville is also prohibited.

“A person must not fire or discharge fireworks unless authorized by a permit (permits are only issued to applicants with a fireworks supervisor and/or pyrotechnics certification card as issued by Natural Resources Canada),” reads a news release form the city.

The Parksville Fire Protection Area, where the bans are in place, encompasses the City of Parksville and contract areas within the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) including: San Pareil, Morningstar, Columbia Beach, French Creek, Fourneau Road, Wildgreen, Martindale Road and the Forever Green Estates.
