Work on streetscape and utility upgrades will begin this week on Bagshaw Street, according to the City of Parksville.

The project includes the replacement and upgrading of about 360 metres of utilities and roadway between Stanford Avenue East and Island Highway East. The city said it should be near completion in October.

“As with all major construction projects, there will be some inconveniences during construction. We appreciate your cooperation and patience during these periods,” reads a release from the city. Crews will maintain traffic flow and services, but there will be temporary interruptions.

The work includes storm sewer, water main, ditch infilling, roadworks, street-lighting and streetscape construction as well as traffic calming, street parking and an improved pedestrian experience.

The city said it selected a streetscape configuration responsive to the feedback received during engagement with businesses and residents on Bagshaw Street last year. ISL Engineering Ltd. worked with the city and residents to complete the streetscape and utilities design and will provide construction inspection and contract administration services for the project. The construction contract has been awarded to Locar Industries Ltd.
