Island Health has declared the COVID-19 outbreak over at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH).

The outbreak was declared in the high intensity rehab unit at NRGH on April 14. In total, six patients and one staff member tested positive related to this outbreak, Island Health said.

The rehab unit is now open to new admissions and transfers.

“We want to acknowledge our staff and medical staff who provided excellent care to our patients under challenging circumstances, everyone involved in our COVID response and our community for your ongoing support,” read a news release from Island Health.

Upon declaring the outbreak, Island Health said it immediately implemented precautions, including enhanced cleaning, as well as contact tracing to protect the health of all staff, medical staff, students and patients.

There are no longer any COVID-19 cases related to this outbreak at the site.
