First responders were called to a two vehicle collision in Parksville on April 26, which resulted in the death of one woman.

Emergency services were called to the Alberni Highway, near the old train station in Parksville around 2 p.m., according to Oceanside RCMP.

Evidence and witness statements confirmed a 78-year-old woman from Nanaimo was parked in her car on the shoulder facing Parksville, police said. She suddenly pulled a U-turn, which resulted in a broadside collision with an oncoming RV.

The driver and her 93-year-old male passenger were extracted from the vehicle and transported to hospital by the BC Ambulance Service.

Police said the driver succumbed to her injuries while in hospital.

Neither speed, nor intoxicants were factors in this collision and charges are not a consideration as the offending driver is now deceased, police said.
