Island Health reports 24 new cases — Daily COVID-19 update

Island Health reported 24 new cases of COVID-19 today, bringing the total active cases to 301. Of these, 79 are in the central island, 190 are in the south and 32 are in the north.

The BC Centre for Disease Control (BC CDC) shows 30 people hospitalized in Island Health, two of whom are in critical care. No new deaths were reported in the region.

Across the province there were 1,001 new cases confirmed in the past 24 hours. There are now 8,842 active cases of COVID-19 and 486 people hospitalized, 160 of whom are on critical care, according to the BC CDC.

There were four more deaths reported in a joint statement from Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer and Adrian Dix, minister of health.

The province has administered 1,542,066 doses of COVID-19 vaccine to date, 88,663 of these were second doses.

The province issued new orders today restricting travel between three health zones in the province, as well as inter-provincial travel.
