Police are investigating a recent suspicious death in Nanaimo as a homicide. The body of 58-year-old Randell Charles Thomas was found in some bushes close to a walking trail near Tamara Drive on March 31, according to RCMP.
Investigators with the Nanaimo RCMP Serious Crime Unit believe Thomas was involved in an altercation which lead to his death.
“At this time, it is unknown if there was more than one individual involved in the altercation,” said Const. Gary O’Brien.
Thomas did not reside in the immediate area and it is unknown if he walked through the neighbourhood prior to his death, RCMP said. Police will be canvassing the area over the next few days to speak with residents.
Police said investigators are focusing on the time period between 2:45 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. on March 31 and are hoping to speak with anyone who was in the area during that time period.
RCMP is also asking motorists who have a dash cam to check for that time period.
Police said at the time of his death Thomas was wearing dark clothing, including a black hoodie with a white logo on the front.
