Island Health declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Longlake Chateau independent living facility in Nanaimo after five residents tested positive.
Communication with residents and families is underway and the residents who tested positive and their close contacts are self-isolating in their homes.
Admissions at the facility will be restricted until the outbreak is over and only essential visitation will be permitted, according to Island Health.
All staff and residents will be tested for the virus.
“During this time, Island Health will have additional presence at the site to take any further actions required, support the facility and answer questions from staff, residents and family members,” reads a news release from Island Health.
