The Parksville Community Centre will be leased to Island Health to be used as a COVID-19 immunization site from March 15 to September.

The agreement will provide exclusive use of the facility except for he kitchen. The clinic is expected to run 12 hours a day, seven days a week and will vaccinate about 60,000 Oceanside residents, according to the city.

“The clinic will require access to onsite loading and parking spaces from March through September and fortunately, the City of Parksville is able to accommodate this request at a rate of $1, which would not have been possible if the centre was being operated independently for rental purposes,” reads a news release from the city.

The city has been working on an agreement to have the Boys and Girls Club of Central Vancouver Island run the community centre and said renovations will begin after Island Health completes all vaccinations, if it gets the required funding.

“Boys and Girls Club of Central Vancouver Island fully supports this critical community initiative,” the release said.
