Oceanside RCMP arrest suspect after reports of threat with a gun

Latest Oceanside News

Oceanside RCMP arrested a man after receiving a call from a resident who claimed to have been assaulted and threatened with a firearm near the walking trails between Springwood Park and Church Road.

Officers spotted the suspect around 11:35 a.m. on March 2 after surrounding the area and calling in police dog services, RCMP said.

The 43-year-old man, who has outstanding arrest warrants and is well known to police, was arrested on Fairdowne Road without incident after being tracked by the police service dog. RCMP said officers located an “item resembling a firearm.”

Police said because of their relative proximity to the event, Springwood Elementary School and the Discover Montessori School were notified of the unfolding incident and asked to shelter in place and get children indoors.

“Public and police safety are top of mind with the police, this is especially true when there are firearms involved. We were glad to have resolved this incident quickly,” said Cpl. Jesse Foreman.
