Island Health

There are 291 active COVID-19 cases in the Island Health region, including 23 reported today. That number includes 170 in the central island region, down 18 in the last 24 hours, along with 44 in the south and 77 in the north. No additional deaths were reported.

Seventeen people are hospitalized with the virus and one person is in ICU, according to the B.C. government’s COVID-19 dashboard. There were 824 COVID-19 tests completed in the past 24 hours.

Province-wide

B.C. recorded 438 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths over the last 24 hours. The deaths were in the Fraser and Northern Health regions, according to Adrian Dix, minister of health.

There are 4,679 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, including 243 people in hospital and 63 in critical care.

The province has administered 283,182 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, including 86,537 second doses, according to Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer.

“We don’t need to rely on second doses before we can lift some of these restrictions if we have enough people protected and we have stopped that transmission in our communities,” she said, adding it is still important for British Columbians to follow provincial health guidelines for the time being.
