The Board of Education of School District 69 (Qualicum) has appointed a new superintendent.

Peter Jory will replace Dr. Keven Elder as superintendent of schools and chief executive officer. The school district said Jory’s appointment coincides with Elder retiring and he will assume his new role on August first this year.

The school district said it went through an extensive search and selection process before choosing Jory to fill the role.

Jory has been superintendent of schools in North Okanagan since 2017 and has worked in the Sea to Sky and Cowichan Valley school districts, according to a news release from the school district.

“I am thrilled to be selected for this incredible leadership opportunity, and am very much looking forward to meeting the team and continuing our important work together,” Jory said.

He and his wife have a history on Vancouver Island and in Oceanside and said they look forward to returning to their roots.

The district said Jory has a strong history as an educator and as an educational leader, with his experience in School District 83 including working with a government appointed trustee and then with a new elected board of education.

“During this time of transition for the school district Mr. Jory provided strong leadership in establishing structures for governance, a new strategic plan and an effective plan for supporting students, families and staff during the pandemic,” reads a press release from School District 69.

Jory will be completing his doctoral program this summer.
