Two people were arrested and released by Oceanside RCMP after stealing a company truck and driving it through a fence in the Parksville Industrial Park.

An RCMP officer noticed a vehicle with front-end damage near the community park Feb. 16 and discovered it was a truck reported stolen earlier that morning. The occupants fled on foot after being approached by the officer, police said.

The 37-year-old male driver and 17-year-old female passenger, both Parksville residents, were arrested without incident after all available officers, including the police service dog, surrounded the area.

The two were later released on conditions and will make their first appearance in Nanaimo Provincial Court on May 18. Police said the truck will soon be returned to its owner.

The owner called RCMP after showing up for work around 7 a.m. Feb. 16 and noticed the truck was stolen after someone broke into the business compound.
