Central island active COVID-19 cases trending downward

Island Health

There are 220 active COVID-19 cases in the Island Health region, including 17 reported in the past 24 hours. That number includes 152 in the central island region, down five since yesterday, along with 58 in the south and 10 in the north. No additional deaths were reported.

Twenty-three people are hospitalized with the virus and seven are in ICU, according to the B.C. government’s COVID-19 dashboard. 

There were 1,148 COVID-19 tests completed in the past 24 hours.

Province-wide

B.C. recorded 449 new COVID-19 cases and nine deaths in the last 24 hours. There are 4,317 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, including 224 people in hospital and 63 in critical care.

“To date, 159,887 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C., 15,684 of which are second doses,” reads a joint statement by Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer and Adrian Dix, minister of health.

There are 6,869 people under active public health monitoring as a result of exposure to the virus, according to the statement.
