Island Health has declared the COVID-19 outbreaks over at Chartwell Malaspina Care Residence in Nanaimo and Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH).

Two deaths were linked to the outbreak at Chartwell Malapsina, where seven residents and two staff members were infected — the first case was Dec. 27. Over 400 COVID-19 tests were performed at the facility, according to Island Health.

Social visits, admissions, transfers and congregate dining will resume with COVID-19 safety protocols in place, the health authority said.

The outbreak at NRGH was declared in the east wing of the fourth floor on Jan. 23. Two staff members and one patient tested positive. No other areas of the hospital were affected, according to Island Health.
