Construction to convert the intersection at Memorial Ave. and Highway 19A to a roundabout is estimated to begin Feb. 8. The estimated completion is spring 2022, according to the town.

Town council awarded the $3.28 million contact to Copcan Civil Ltd on Dec. 23

“Reconstruction of this intersection will increase public safety, calm traffic, improve services levels and reduce idling,” reads a news release from the town.

The project is funded in part by a $600,000 federal gas tax refund the town received in 2016, according to the news release.

The town also received $1.4 million from the province’s water and wastewater fund for phase three of the Memorial Ave. upgrade in 2017.

The town said crews are removing benches, the flagpole and landscape elements to protect them during construction.
