Island Health reports 32 new cases of COVID-19 — 12 more deaths in B.C.

Island Health now has 222 active cases of COVID-19, according to the health authority’s website. Of these, 167 are in the central island region, 41 are in the south and 14 are in the north.

The B.C. government COVID-19 dashboard shows 15 people currently hospitalized in the region — five of whom are in critical care.

There were 988 tests performed in the past 24 hours in Island Health and 1,302 people have recovered from the virus.

Across the province there were 12 more COVID-19 related deaths in the past 24 hours. There are now 4,455 active cases in B.C. — 291 people are hospitalized, 75 of whom are in critical care, according to a joint statement from Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer and Adrian Dix, minister of health.

To date 127,255 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered, 4,185 of which were second doses.

There are currently 7,176 people under public health monitoring as a result of exposure to the virus.
