Island Health active COVID-19 cases drop slightly

Island Health now has 195 active cases of COVID-19 — 157 of these are in the central island region, 22 are in the south and 16 are in the north, according to the health authority’s website.

The B.C government COVID-19 dashboard shows 15 people currently hospitalized in Island Health, five of whom are in critical care.

Across the province there are 4,260 active cases and 313 people hospitalized — 71 people are in critical care, according to a joint statement from Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer and Adrian Dix, minister of health.

Over the past 24 hours, there were 14 more COVID-19 related deaths reported.

“Our goal is clear – fewer cases in B.C. – as low as we can go. Our path to get there is just as clear – fewer faces and fewer places,” reads the statement.

To date, 122,359 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administer in the province — 4,105 of these have been second doses.
