Active COVID-19 cases in Island Health surpass 200

Island Health reported 43 new cases of COVID-19 today — there are now 201 active cases in the region. Of these, 157 are in the central island, 22 in the north and 22 in the south.

There are 14 people hospitalized in Island Health, six of whom are in critical care, according to the B.C. government’s COVID-19 dashboard. Over the past 24 hours, there were 970 tests done in the region.

Across the province there are now 4,450 active cases of the virus — 564 were reported today in a joint statement from Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer and Adrian Dix, minister of health.

The statement reported 15 new COVID-19 related deaths in B.C. today.

“Despite our COVID-19 curve trending in the right direction, we continue to have new outbreaks, community clusters and high numbers of new cases. COVID-19 continues to spread widely in our communities,” the statement reads.

To date, 104,901 doses of of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the province — the statement said 1,663 of these have been second doses.
