There are now 132 active cases of COVID-19 in central Vancouver Island and a total of 177 in Island Health — 22 in the south and 23 in the north.
Island Health reported 32 new cases of COVID-19 today. There are 15 people hospitalized in the region, seven of whom are in intensive care, according to the B.C. government COVID-19 dashboard. It said Island Health performed 833 tests in the past 24 hours.
Across the province, there have been 14 more COVID-19 related deaths. A joint statement from Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer and Adrian Dix, minister of health reported 500 new cases today — this brings the total active cases to 4,345. Of these, 320 are hospitalized, 66 of whom are in intensive care.
“Our COVID-19 curve is trending in the right direction, and we want to keep that going — to push our curve down, which in turn, will allow us to safely ease restrictions,” the statement reads.
To date, 98,125 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province. There are currently 6,905 people under public health monitoring as a result of exposure to the virus.
